Be Sustainable, Be Creative, Mindfully Make

Victoria Martinez Azaro is originally from Argentina and moved to New Zealand in 1997.  She teaches this at the Whitecliffe College of Fashion and Sustainability. Victoria also runs a workshop called “The Travelling Sewing Box”.  This project aims to give refugee and migrant women the opportunity to celebrate their own cultural background, life journeys and memories through any particular textile crafts inherent to their own culture. With the intention of salvaging and revaluing culture through cloth, the Traveling Sewing Box Project objective is to appreciate and celebrate the cultural value that immigrant women bring to New Zealand.
Victoria would like to teach children “The mini Travelling Sewing Box” as a way to empower our next generation to create their story and embrace sustainability through making.
