FAQ'S

What is a Makerspace?

A maker space is a place where people meet to work on a wide array of projects ranging from woodworking, sewing, jewellery making etc. The whole concept revolves around a community aspect.

What equipment is available on the RE: MAKER SPACE?

We have power tools such as a drop saw, laser cutter, portable planers, jigsaws, sanders, drills, hammers, etc. We also have industrial and residential sewing machines.

We intend to acquire a CNC machine in the coming months and have other equipment at our Reclaim Centre. Let us know what machines you think we should have!

What time is the RE: MAKER SPACE open?

One of our ReCreators or members will be onsite Monday-Friday 10-3 pm. We run lots of workshops throughout the week so why not join one of those to get to know us. Otherwise please book a time to see us by emailing help@therecreators.co.nz.

Can I come and try the space out before I join?

Yes, we encourage people to try join one of our existing DIY upcycling workshops to understand what we do and how we work.

Can anyone join?

The RE: MAKER SPACE aims to foster an inclusive, diverse and friendly culture for all members.

The space is open to all. However, if the kids are below 16, then its mandatory that a guardian accompanies them. If they are 16 or 17, they need a parent waiver before they can use the space.

Do I need previous experience?

All new members need to go through all our documentation, book a time with one of our specialists and show competence onsite with tools before being given specific tool access. We also recommend members attend The ReCreators Power tools 101 and 201 workshops. They are great events for building confidence as well as teaching upcycled design thinking.

Please understand the Health & Safety issues inherent in working with all equipment. You must be able to work confidently and independently on your own projects. Please check with the onsite supervisor if you are unsure.

Can I bring children to the RE: MAKER SPACE?

Yes, but children have to be 8+ and all those under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. The makerspace is an open environment however some tools are not suited for young kids. Please note that our staff are not in charge of the supervision. 16- or 17-year-old kids will require an adult waiver before they can access the space. Please send us an email at to find out more.

Once I have joined, what happens next?

You will be given access to our RE: MAKER SPACE chat group where you can talk about projects with the team and also find our up to date available times.

You will receive a swipe card that will track your access to the site.

How can I volunteer?

We love volunteers! Please get in touch with a member of our team to find out how you can support us.
